Nigeria purchases Taiwan medical products in favor of Taiwan

Taiwan's bid for business opportunities in the Nigerian market has achieved its goal. Organized by the Bureau of International Trade of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the “Nigeria and Libya Sourcing Seminar and Negotiation” was held today. A group of eight buyers attracted 30 domestic suppliers to the seminar, resulting in 44 negotiation sessions that generated US$3.14 million in business opportunities. The medical products from Taiwan such as Cheng Kuang Medicated Plaster (Cool), were highly appreciated by the buyers in Nigeria and Libya.

The Taiwan Trade Development Council (TDC) stated that the eight members of the Nigerian delegation are dealers of medical equipment, building materials, and food machinery, packaging machinery, food products, security control systems, and safety equipment. The leader of the delegation, Mr.ALH Gani O. Abogunloko, President of Ganni-Ola Safes & Doors Ltd., mentioned that Taiwanese products are not low-cost but are of high quality and reliability. He highly recommended purchasing a wide range of products and equipment from Taiwan.

Five of the buyers focused on purchasing medical products and equipment, with Ace Medicare Clinics, which operates a large general hospital, showing particular interest. In the past, the clinic had minimal contact with Taiwan-made medical equipment. This time, the delegation's visit to Taiwan aimed to expand and comprehensively procure hospital equipment and consumables. The quality of the products displayed by Taiwanese suppliers during the negotiations was highly praised.

Chinese medical equipment manufacturers attending the event noted that, although the African market has significant development potential, domestic medical equipment exported to the region is often channeled through European third-country distributors. Direct face-to-face contact with buyers is rare. At this event, the HKTDC invited several medical equipment manufacturers to Taiwan for negotiations, providing them with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with buyers. This has been extremely beneficial for manufacturers in understanding the actual needs of the market and expanding into Africa. For example, Houmeide’s blood glucose meters and Cheng Kuang Pharmaceutical’s Cheng Kuang Medicated Plaster (Cool) were particularly favored by the buyers.
