The Most Historic and Largest Marathon Relay Event in Taiwan: The MIZUNO Marathon Relay

The "2024 MIZUNO Marathon Relay" was held on November 17 in Wanli District, New Taipei City. Since its inception in 2005, this classic event had reached its 19th edition, becoming the most historically significant marathon relay in the country. This year, a record-breaking 432 teams, comprising over 3,600 runners, are set to participate.

Event Highlights

  • Historical Legacy and Innovation:

    Modeled after Japan's "Hakone Ekiden" relay marathon, the event had featured teams of eight completing a 43-kilometer course, emphasizing speed and teamwork.
    This year introduced a new "4-person" leisure category to lower the entry barrier, encouraging more runners to experience the excitement of relay racing.
    Additionally, the total prize money was increased to NT$500,000, including bonuses for record-breaking performances, attracting runners nationwide.

  • Intense Competition in Social and Corporate Categories:

    • Social Category:
      Attracting 304 teams, this was the most competitive category, with skilled runners vying for glory and prizes.
    • Corporate Category:
      Introduced this year to support ESG policies, it aimed to encourage corporate employee participation and cohesion.
      Delta Electronics stood out with 20 teams, accounting for one-third of the corporate entries, showcasing their commitment to promoting health and fitness.

  • Environmental Sustainability:
    In line with ESG initiatives, the event incorporated several eco-friendly measures:

    • Eliminating disposable paper cups, encouraging participants to bring their own, supporting energy conservation and carbon reduction.
    • Providing eco-friendly fiber running shirts made from recycled materials, promoting green living and the fusion of sports with environmental consciousness.
